Why Join?
As students get into more debt with the introduction of fees, BAME students face additional barriers in education including:
- lower grades when anonymous marking is not in place
- a lesser chance of achieving a first class degree
- higher drop-out rates
Black graduates are less likely to have a job than white peers - within 6 months of graduating 9.4% of BAME graduates are unemployed compared with 4.9% of white graduates - and are expected to earn up to 9% less for the same work within five years.
The Network is working in partnership with the NUS Black Students’ Campaign - the largest organisation of Black Students in Europe. They represent all students of African, Arab, Asian and Caribbean descent in Britain and campaign and lobby to raise awareness on issues affecting Black students at both a local and national level.
The current economic climate is set to leave many people out of work. The partnership between the Network for Black Professionals and the NUS Black Students’ Campaign is vital, to not only improve the career prospects of BAME graduates, but to make lasting changes to the inequalities that BAME graduates face in employment.
