The Network is delighted to extend its congratulations to Anthony Bravo on his appointment as Principal at Basingstoke College of Technology (BCOT).  Currently Principal at Crossways Academy in Lewisham, Anthony takes over from current Principal, Judith Armstrong, in the summer.

Anthony, aged 46, is a member of the Network's Executive Board and has been a strong supporter of the work of the Network and the BLI for many years. Prior to his appointment at Crossways, Anthony worked at City and Islington College. Anthony qualified as a teacher in Newcastle after graduating in Agriculture and Environmental Science but started his career in the private sector as Marks and Spencer's first black management graduate trainee. After a successful career in retail he moved into education and developed his career in FE with notable successes in the areas of partnership development, community engagement, income generation and workforce development.

A father of two, Anthony is a former national kickboxing champion and retains a keen interest in the sport.

“I’m a great enabler or facilitator,” he said. “I make things happen. My absolute priority is the learning experience and making sure learners have a great experience.”

He said his other priorities are the college’s use of information technology and developing links with employers.

Mike Rushworth, chairman of the college’s board of corporation, said replacing Ms Armstrong had presented them with a difficult challenge, but they shortlisted six “very high standard” candidates before picking Mr Bravo.

He said: “In Anthony, we have a leader that is a dedicated educator, a determined leader and, above all, someone who is committed to people, both students and staff.”
