The Network for Black Professionals has been awarded a contract by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) through the Future Jobs Fund to assist organisations in creating 90 brand new jobs in Wolverhampton and London between now and October 2010.
Future Jobs Fund is a £1 billion investment by DWP intended to create around 150,000 new jobs across Britain to benefit unemployed young people aged 18-24, who have been out of work for nearly a year and people over 25 who are living in unemployment hotspots.
Through the fund we have put together an impressive package of support for both the employee & employer, including a £3,000 wage subsidy, payable in three instalments over the first 6 months, pre-screening of potential interviewees, help short-listing candidates and accredited training to qualify individuals in Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, and First Aid. Once employed, we will continue to support and mentor the young person during the first six months of their new role.
In addition to saving valuable time and money, employers who create a job through the Future Jobs Fund will be bringing new skills into their organisation and helping to make positive life changes for young people and make a difference within their community.
Employing an 18-24 year old will bring a new perspective to organisations and help ensure that for those young people hit by the recession, their generation will not be lost to unemployment and a life on benefits.
The Network will lead a consortium of 3 large colleges: Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College, Lambeth College, and City of Wolverhampton College, and 2 local authorities: Ealing and Lambeth, to secure 60 jobs in London and 30 in Wolverhampton.
Our ambition is to secure job opportunities with employers from across the range of sectors although we will make significant efforts to support the building of capacity in voluntary, community, and third sector organisations, as well as small to medium enterprises.
