Tackling Racial Inequalities

Reducing imbalances in employment, education and training

 

The Network for Black Professionals is one of the successful organisations currently in receipt of financial support from the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) Tackling Race Inequalities Fund (TRIF).

 

The Network is delighted to be able to offer a broad range of professional development opportunities to colleagues in public and voluntary and community sector organisations, tailored from our award winning Black Leadership Initiative. This positive action programme attracts a 100% subsidy through CLG.

The Activities 

Innovative training and development opportunities available through the project include: -

The Programme Aims

The Network’s programme of activities will aim to achieve the following key goals: -

 

• Reduce imbalances in employment, education and training

• Help to ensure there are more people from BAME backgrounds at senior levels within a range of employment areas

• Promote social justice and equality of opportunity for people from BAME groups

• Increase levels of civic participation, volunteering or representation in civic or political institutions among people from BAME groups

• Work with local bodies promoting race equality to help them work more effectively

 

The project also includes a research element linked to identifying good practice and exemplar projects from across the country. This research resulted in the creation of a publication - 'Leading the Way to Race Equality - A Guide to Good Practice' - and dissemination events which took place in February 2011. Audience

Training and development activities are suitable for a broad range of beneficiaries including: -

 

• Senior managers in local government

• Senior managers in the voluntary and community sector

• Junior BAME colleagues in all sectors

• Senior managers in a range of public sector organisations

 

Surveys

To aid us in assessing the overall impact of TRIF positive action programmes, we are conducting a research survey for TRIF beneficiaries to tell us about the impact that the programmes are having on their personal and professional development.

 

We are also conducting a research survey interested in the views of public and voluntary and community sector employers to enable an assessment that is embedded within current economic and social realities.
